Putnam County School's offers students the opportunity to develop their mental and physical skills through effective instruction, physical education, technology, art and music. Putnam County School System
In 2009, PCSS expanded into four levels of education including primary, elementary, middle and high schools. Putnam County Primary serves pre-K through 2nd grade students, elementary serves 3rd - 5th grades, middle school serves 6th - 8th grades, while the high school serves 9th - 12th grades. The system serves approximately 2700 students and employs more than 500, with over 200 teachers. The system has an average student-to-teacher ratio of 14 to 1.

Gatewood School
Gatewood School is a college preparatory school located on a 32-acre campus in historic downtown Eatonton and has been in operation since 1970. Gatewood educates students in a nurturing, Christian environment while installing life-long characteristics of truth, honor, loyalty and pride. Gatewood Schools have an average body of 450 students from kindergarten through 12th grade.

Redeemer Episcopal Academy
Redeemer Episcopal Academy carries on the Episcopal tradition of educational excellence through its college-preparatory program including rigorous academics, small class sizes, low student/teacher ratios, daily Spanish and proven curricula delivered by exceptional teachers in a safe, nurturing environment. Founded on faith, Redeemer Episcopal Academy is open to all faiths. The school's Honor Code is exemplified by its faculty and students.

Central Georgia Technical College
Eatonton is home to its own branch of Central Georgia Technical College (CGTC), where technical certificates of credit are offered in construction, allied health, welding, information technology, emergency medical services and much more. The center also provides custom training for specific businesses and industry. CGTC has been approved for funding from the Georgia HOPE grant and offers other sources of financial aid to interested students.
Recently, CGTC began offering dual enrollment for students at Putnam County High School. The school offers more than 190 classes online, in addition to both day and night on-site courses. CGTC has campuses in Milledgeville, Macon, Gray, Roberta and Jeffersonville.

Additional Colleges and Universities
More than nine colleges and universities are within a 50-mile radius of Eatonton, including nearby Milledgeville's Georgia Military College and Georgia College & State University, Georgia's premiere liberal arts college. Macon is home to Mercer University, Wesleyan College and Macon State College. In Covington, there is Emory at Oxford College.
Other public senior colleges well within driving distance are the Georgia Institute of Technology and Georgia State University in Atlanta (78 miles) and the University of Georgia in Athens (only 50 miles away).
