About Us

Visitors and residents alike are encouraged to explore the rich history of Eatonton-Putnam County; from Native American effigies dating back 2,000 years and Civil War ghosts, to Brer Rabbit and de critters alongside a Pulitzer Prize winning author. Around every corner is an adventure, just waiting to be enjoyed.

Eatonton is nestled in the heart of Georgia's Lake Country, both lakes Oconee and Sinclair offer recreational activities for the whole family. The lakes provide fishing, swimming and watersport recreation, but along the shoreline are numerous other activities, miles of hiking trails, championship golf courses and patio side dining.

We invite you to begin your journey by strolling through time at the Old School Museum located adjacent to the Welcome Center within The Plaza Arts Center. Visitors can see a vintage drugstore, a reproduction of the turn-of-the-century downtown and a historical gallery that displays artifacts from the transition of early Native American culture to cotton farming, through the Civil War and reconstruction, into the 20th century.
