Dairy and timber are also important farm gate commodities, which contribute significantly to the economy, as do beef cattle, horses and agri-tourism.

Tourism is the second largest industry in the state of Georgia and ranks among the top three in Putnam County. We are home to Lakes Oconee (374 miles of shoreline) and Sinclair (417 miles of shoreline), with approximately 250 miles around Putnam County. These lakes translate into excellent fishing, water sports and lots of second recreational homes. This in turn grows jobs in the construction and service industries. While many may not considerer Tourism an industry; we here in Putnam County do.
